BEACHES

On the Costa Brava there are so many beaches and coves with charm that it is really difficult to decide which one is the best. They influence the day and the state of the sea, as well as the particular taste of each one, but there are some that you can not miss because they are always great.

The best beaches on the Costa Brava

1- Cala Aigua Xelida – Tamariu

Small and magical cove that is just over 1 km. of Tamariu. It is about 20 meters wide and is considered one of the best beaches on the Costa Brava.

The waters of this tiny beach are quite cold, crystalline, and perfect for diving among the thousands of fish that inhabit them or doing snorkel.

2- Sa Tuna – Begur

It is not only considered one of the best beaches of the Costa Brava but one of the best places to visit in the area. The waters of this small cove are calm, crystalline, and are surrounded by high rocks.

Sa Tuna has a twin cove, the cove of S’Eixugador, which you can access either walking with some discomfort, or swimming. This guarantees that the cove, even in the middle of August, is not very busy. Some of the houses in the seaside neighborhood are picturesque and there is a path in Ronda that will take you to Cala d’Aiguafreda, where there is a very nice beach bar.

3- Playa Sa Conca – Playa d’Aro

At the end of the Camino de Ronda is where we find this beach, one of the most beautiful corners of the Costa Brava. It is distinguished by being a family beach, about 400 meters from a golden sand with crystal clear waters. It also includes all kind of services, with a parking quite close to the area.

We could say that this beach is divided into two zones but it is always the same beach. One of them is in the farthest part of the Road called “Cala dels Oriços” with rock bottom and riddled with urchins, and the other one is the best known part, the “Illot de Sa Conca”.

4- Port Bo – Calella de Palafrugell

It is a beach that stands out especially for the typical fishing coves, with old fishermen’s houses in the background. Above the sand you will find several boats, and you will be surrounded by the typical arches in the paths forming porches and several fish and seafood restaurants with their particular yummi smell.

Remember: The popular “Cantada de Habaneras” is celebrated in July. You can not miss it if you happen to be in the area.

5- Playa Es Castell – Palamós

We include this beach because of two reasons. First, this is one of the most beautiful beaches that you have ever seen. Second, it is one of the most pristine beaches of the Costa Brava, and this has been achieved thanks to the defense that has been carried out of its environment among its neighbors.

On the far left of the place is the ruins of an old Iberian town from which you will have exquisite views of the entire beach.

In addition, this beach has a land parking very close to the beach.

6- Cala Estreta – Palamós

If we want even more calm and intimacy we strongly recommend that you go to Cala Estreta. While it is true that the way to access is walking about 40 minutes, we assure you that it will be worth it.

It will be worthwhile to make the road itself, where the landscape that surrounds us is spectacular, and also, if we feel like it, we can make a small stop more or less halfway the Barraca de Dalí, a diaphanous and small cabin in the half of the forest that the millionaire Alberto Puig Palau built to the artist Dalí to use as a workshop. Sadly, none of Dalí works were made there.

You will have arrived at Cala Estreta when you descend an incline and you feel that suddenly you have entered an incredibly calm place, a heaven of peace with no doubt. It measures about 100 meters and is divided by a rocky ledge called “La Roja”.

You can practice nudism in it, and we recommend this beach above all because you will be able to rest in privacy (since the influx of people is very low and there is no service) but not especially to bathe, due to the sharp rocks that sit the place.
